Reach out by phone or email to discuss your assessment. Many issues can be resolved at this stage.

Share comparable sales, appraisals, or other documentation supporting your opinion of value.

Board of Review

File a protest with the Board of Review during the appropriate session (see dates below). Complete Form 618 (Petition to Board of Review).

If unresolved after the Board of Review, you may appeal to the Michigan Tax Tribunal.

Board of Review Sessions

The Board of Review convenes in March to hear assessment protests and consider exemption applications. Additional sessions are held in July and December for limited purposes only — no assessment appeals are heard at those sessions.

Personal Property Tax

Businesses owning personal property (equipment, machinery, furniture) are required to file an annual personal property statement.

📄 Annual Filing Requirements
  • Form 632 (Personal Property Statement) — due February 20 annually
  • Form 5076 (Small Business Exemption) — businesses with true cash value of personal property under $80,000 file once and are exempt until no longer eligible; businesses between $80,000–$180,000 are fully exempt but must file annually
  • Form 5278 (Eligible Manufacturing Personal Property) — for qualifying manufacturers
Deadline: Personal property statements are due by February 20. Late filing may result in penalties.
